SummaryThe Daily Dot seeks candidates who are passionate about internet trends, social media, entertainment, and consumer culture to apply for our Trending internship. Our Trending team focuses on how the lives and discussions of everyday Americans manifest online—whether it’s McDonald’s hacks, labor issues, or niche TikTok drama. Your position as a Trending intern will primarily focus on quickly reported blogs, giving you a unique experience in the fast-paced world of digital journalism. Alongside speedy scoops, interns will focus on a more long-form reporting project over the semester to dig further into their daily beats. Ideal candidates will have strong reporting and writing skills, a passion for internet culture, and an eye for emerging stories. Most important is a desire to produce stories no one else is reporting on.
Roles and Responsibilities- Write and report fast-paced daily blogs
- Work with Daily Dot editors to pitch internet scoops not covered by other publications
- Pitch, report, and write a long-form story package throughout the internship
- Adhere to journalistic standards for fact-checking, accuracy, and fairness
Interested? Here’s what we’re looking for:- You have at least two semesters of college or high-school-level newsroom experience
- You meet deadlines
- You have experience making contacts and securing interviews
- You are skilled in multitasking and prioritizing in a rapidly changing environment
- You are comfortable in a small, intense, and fast environment
- You understand and know the Daily Dot brand, internet culture, online communities, and current internet trends
- Experience working as part of a virtual team is a plus
**Please link to at least two published writing samples in your cover letter.**This is a paid ($20/hr), fully remote, 10-hour-per-week commitment for the duration of the semester.
Applications for Spring 2024 are due by January 6, 2024. This internship may also be used toward college credit, depending on your program (we're happy to help work with you to apply this credit to your program).
